Beautiful Bond Falls
There are more than 150 waterfalls across this breathtaking area of the Upper Peninsula. In the Autumn, the waterfalls are framed by maple crimson and aspen gold. In the winter, they create strange ice formations. All are spectacles of white splendor that are sure to make any vacation memorable.
Below you will find brief descriptions of the more popular waterfalls, which includes directions on how to reach them, as well as a few downloadable maps.

The National Black River Scenic Byway – is featured in USA Today’s “Scenic fall road trips for your budget”
The National Black River Scenic Byway includes, Great Conglomerate Falls, Potawatomi, Gorge, Sandstone, and Rainbow Falls. As you visit our waterfalls, stop and take notice of the signs explaining the conglomerate rock formations.
Directions: From Hwy. US 2 in Bessemer take Powderhorn Rd North. When you come to the T in the road at the stop sign, make a left hand turn on Black River Rd. You will find all the waterfalls on this Road. This road is approximately 14 miles long, ending in the only Harbor & Marina operated by the USDA Forest Service in the lower 48 states.

1. Great Conglomerate Falls This is a very large waterfall which is divided by a wide conglomerate rock formation. This waterfall is well marked. Walking trail 3/4 mile.

            • Access:  Improved Trail

2. Potawatomi Falls
Potawatomi, which is barrier free (from Gorge Parking Lot), is one of the most beautiful waterfalls on the Black River. This waterfall is well marked. A restroom is available at this site. Walking trail is approximately 1/8 mile.  Shares common road in with Gorge Falls and 2 separate parking lots.

3.  Gorge Falls
This conglomerate canyon has a 34 foot drop. Potawatomi and Gorge Falls are accessible by the same parking area. Walking trail is approximately 1/8 mile.

4.  Sandstone Falls
This waterfall meanders over rocks giving it a unique appearance. It is located on a beautiful spot on the Black River, with a well marked, short 1/4 mile walking trail.

•Vertical Drop:  20 ft. and Over
5.  Rainbow Falls
A Beautiful Waterfall that is extremely photogenic on the East part of the River. Enjoy the scenery on your 1/2 mile walk to the waterfall. Take is easy, there are many stairs.

6.  Gabbro Falls/Bakers Falls
Located on the Black River, take US2 between Bessemer and Wakefield to Blackjack road.  Turn north and go pas second gas line clearing and park, approx 1.5 miles.  Walk the line west to river river.  Upper and lower river locations.

7.  Superior Falls
Located on the Montreal River.  Take US2 west in Wisconsin to Hwy 122.  Turn north and follow into Michigan.  When you cross the river between WI and MI, take the first road to the left and park in the power company parking area.  Follow the signs to view falls.

8.  Powdermill Falls   
Large waterfall that has a good amount of water falling into a large pool. This walk is short and easy.
Directions: From Hwy US 2 between Ironwood & Bessemer, go north on Powderhorn Road approximately two miles. You will see a sign for the Alpine Inn & Village. Just past that sign is a dirt road on you left and a dirt path on your right. Park you vehicle on the shoulder of the road and follow the path to the waterfalls.
9.  Maple Creek 
Just past the driveway to Potawatomi & Gorge waterfalls ( on the Black River National Forest Scenic Byway) is Maple Creek road on your left. Take the dirt road in about 4 miles to the bridge and find a parking spot. The falls are below the bridge and upstream. Downstream is Lake Superior about 1/2 mile.
10.  Nelson Canyon Falls 
Beautiful waterfall and a beautiful hike that ends with a spectacular climax. Approximately 45 minute walk that is not difficult. Take your time to enjoy and explore this area.
Directions: Three miles West of Lake Gogebic on Hwy 64 take C Camp Rd; cross Nelson Creek (culverts) and continue for almost one mile until you are on your way uphill there is a two track (path). Park and walk the two track in and as it peters out or turns right; walk angling left. When you get to the river walk downstream
11.  Agate Falls – Large beautiful waterfall that is visited by many people. The trail is well marked and easy to find.
Directions: Go 6.5 miles East of Bruce Crossing on Highway M-28. You will see a sign on the Highway at the Bridge. Park in the parking area on the south. Follow the well marked trail under the bridge to the waterfall.

12.  Bond Falls – A unique large waterfall that you should be sure NOT to miss, which is located on the middle branch of the Ontonagon River. This waterfall has been photographed for commercials and other various advertisement.
Directions: Take Highway US 45 to the town of Paulding. You will find the waterfall 2.5 miles East of Paulding on Bond Falls Road. Walk the well marked and cultivated trails to the waterfall.
13.  Bakers Falls – This waterfall has two large drops. The walk is short and easy, but not marked with signs.
Directions: Between Bessemer and Wakefield on US 2 turn north on Blackjack Road. At the second gas line clearing park your car and walk to the west. At the river bank go north. Explore the view is best from below. This is a steep bank, but walkable with care.
14.  Porcupine Mountains Presque Isle Park
At the Presque Isle Park you will find Manido, Nawadaha, and Manabezho Falls. At the parking areas, you will find signs showing you the way to the waterfalls. Guests are able to walk both sides of the River on a well developed walkway. Historical Markers along the river will intrigue any hiker.
15.  Manabezho Falls – This is a very wide beautiful waterfall with an extremely large drop. Easily – accessible and very few steps.

16.  Manido Falls – This waterfall is a short additional walk from Manabezho Falls. It is smaller than Manabezho Falls, but proves to be just as wide and photogenic.
17.  Nawadaha Falls – This waterfall is an additional short walk from Manido Falls. The rapid current will be sure to grab your attention.
Directions: Just outside of Wakefield on Highway M28 take County Rd 519 North up a incline. Follow that road! When you come to South Boundary Rd keep going straight (This will lead you to the park). Please take your time and enjoy the view. This road is approximately 22 miles long.
Caution: The falls and Rapids of the Presque Isle River have very strong currents and numerous deep holes. Please respect the power and hidden dangers of this turbulent and beautiful river. The park includes a picnic, camping, and parking area. There are numerous other waterfalls within the Porcupine Mountains State Parks interior. 18.  Cascade Falls – This waterfall has an array of steps with a tremendous amount of water. Located on the West Branch of the Ontonagon River.
Directions: Heading East of Bergland on M-28, take USFS 222 (Forest Highway 222, BECOMES 400 Forest Highway) Northeast from M-28. You will see a well-marked parking lot to the right. Walk the mile groomed trail to the waterfall.
19.  Powdermill Falls – Large waterfall that has a good amount of water falling into a large pool. This walk is short and easy.
Directions: From Highway US 2 between Ironwood & Bessemer, go north on Powderhorn Road approximately two miles. You will see a sign for the Alpine Inn & Village. Just past that sign is a dirt road on you left and a dirt path on your right. Park you vehicle on the shoulder of the road and follow the path to the waterfalls.
20.  O Kun De Kun & Unnamed Falls – Finding these will be a challenge but worth your effort.
Directions: Park at the North Country Trail parking lot on US 45, about 6/10 mile north of the Baltimore River bridge, and take the North Country Trail east 1.2 miles to the falls.
21.  Victoria Dam Falls – This waterfall is controlled by Victoria Dam. It is a spectacular straight drop! The best time to view this waterfall is in the Spring or after heavy rains.
Directions – Take Victoria Dam Road West from Rockland for approximately five miles to the Dam. Make sure you bear left at the junction by the old village. There is a unnamed falls about .2 miles below the Dam. There are some pipes that go along the River about 300 feet into the ground. From there you can see, across the river, water dropping about 90 feet straight down to the River! Enjoy the view.
