Friday, Jan 10th
The Lake Gogebic Area has received almost a foot of snow on Friday
and we are forecasted for continuing lake effect and a clipper system on Sunday
.
Groomers were out Friday night with one machine that covered
Trail 1n to White Pine Friday Evening.
Marenisco crews have been out covering Trail 1S from
Marenisco to Presque Isle. The base is
very thin and there are exposed rocks, gravel and dirt in spots, but is
rideable and fairly smooth. The beaver
dam that was recently removed drained nicely but left a good size trench so use
caution if traveling on this trail.
The grade (Trail 1S and 2 combined) is in good condition.
It is anticipated that groomers will run Saturday and Sunday
in double shifts covering all trails in the Lake Gogebic Area with the
exception of 8 west which will be
covered Monday or Tuesday depending upon how much snow comes in from the
anticipated clipper system on Sunday.
Think and be safe everyone!
Jan 5th 2025:
Trails in the Lake Gogebic Area were groomed Friday night and
reported in much better shape than anticipated.
The North end of Lake Gogebic received over 10” of snow in
the past 2 days; and the South end of
Lake Gogebic has received about 3”. The lake effect snow we’ve received was
actually making moisture when circulated from blade to drag and set up tight!
It’s cold, so that definitely helped. Swamp’s remain frozen with thin and icy spots
and some perfect spots.
·
1n, 1s and 102 were groomed Friday
·
Trail 8 west (railroad grade) East out of
Bergland reported as choppy and thin
·
13 N to Rockland is not being groomed at this
time due to icy conditions.
·
13S remains closed
·
Trails in the South end of Lake Gogebic are
reported as very icy.
December 20th
We’ve had two days of scattered snow showers bringing in about 6-8” on the North Shore of Lake Gogebic. Teens and single digits will be prevalent throughout the weekend and all trails in the Lake Gogebic Area have been groomed as of Friday Morning. Early conditions exist so ride with caution, watch out for each other and have fun.
Here’s our report from the Gogebic Area Groomers:
Trail Update:
Trail 1N: Good
Trail 1S: Trail 1S from Ethelwood to Presque Isle has been groomed and is in good shape. There is a section of water spots that are shallow and more of a nuisance than anything – use caution.
Trail 13 N Good
Trail 13S Working on – will update. 13 South to Trail 2 is closed for logging.
Trail 102 Good
Trail 8 West still has water spots but you are able to get around them. (Use caution)
Trail 100 to the bottom of the lake is in fair to poor condition.

December 13
TGIF everyone and what a great weekend it’s looking to be! Temps sunk below zero yesterday which will help to freeze up wet spots on the trails as well as to make some good ice on the lake.
Trails 1n, 1s, 8e, 8w and all feeder trails to local businesses were covered this week. 8w still has some pretty good water holes opening up.
Conditions are improving daily and Gogebic Groomers have one machine running with a drag and the other without a drag fixing or working on problem areas. Our trail’s aren’t perfect (yet). Trails are improving Ride with caution and enjoy!
Don’t forget – Gogebic Area Grooming Christmas Trivia Fundraiser is December 21st at AJ’s!! Details may be found at www.ajslodgeandoven.com or on facebook!
December 3
The Lake Gogebic Area has received over 18” of snow in the last few days and there’s daily snow in the forecast with heavier snow forecasted on Wednesday. Trails are open and groomers are out opening gates, setting trails, clearing debris and hazards, and filling water holes with snow and assessing swamps. Once all trails have been set, groomers will begin packing and panning to create a Base and then the grooming will start with mother nature cooperating of course.
There is a Gogebic Area Grooming Club meeting on Tuesday, December 3rd at 6 p.m. Eastern at the fire station on the West side of lake Gogebic off M64. All are welcome.
Looks like we are off to the start of a great season!!!! THINK SNOW!!!
